As we have two pairs of Marmosets at some point we may have to rehome some of our babies. We will not rehome our youngsters until they have handling experience from helping their parents rear a baby. Whish is normally 6 - 8 months after they were born. This will help alleviate problems with potential breeding in the future. We feel that the Marmosets need to know that they are Marmosets and not humans. We will not rehome to someone who has no other Marmoset as we believe it is not right for the animal to housed alone. They are a social animal that like the socialisation of their own kind and no matter how much attention you give to them, you will never be able to give the amount and the right type of socialisation they require.

When we were looking at purchasing the Marmosets we were told that they thought that the female was pregnant. we thoght at the time it may have been a selling ploy but credit where credit is due, they were right.
Shakiras tummy has gradually grown over the period we have had her to the point we thought it was going to burst.
On the 12/12/2009 around 11pm - 12pm shakira gave birth to twins. Shakira came out late as I was passing the cage and thought it was strange. I offered her some Moreo worms which she took. As she was eating I noticed her gait appeared wide and her tummy apparently contracting. I thought there was no way she could be in labour if she was eating. On closer inspection I finally made out two babies clinging to her.
Unfortunately after a couple of days the babies began to decline in health and mum abandoned them. We tried to hand rear them but unfortunately both died.

As and when we have any baby Marmosets we would be keeping them until they have gained handling experience from handling future sisters or brothrs. Our babies will only be allowed to go to people who have anoher Marmoset or will take as part of a pair. They will only be alowed to go to people who have the correct enclosures to house them.
