Hello and welcome to the Debonaire Exotic Animals website.
We have been keeping a number of exotic animals for a number of years and would like to tell you a little about
them and ourselves. We are a family of exotic animal keepers with all our children joining in. Two of our older
children are at a local University doing courses in Animals Management which can only benefit our animals. We are very
lucky that all our children have a love of animals as when we have new animal additions there is usually a fight about who
is going to be looking after them.
All the animals we keep are pets and we class them as part of our family.
We interact with them on a daily basis.
If
we take on a new pet it stays with us for life. Before we ever consider taking on a new pet we research its needs fully. We
talk to fellow keepers and then sit back and contemplate that we can fully meet the animals needs.
Through this website we want to inform you how we look after our pets in
the hope that you may gain some information from it. We would of course welcome any feedback, comments. We would appreciate any
information as to how you keep your animals, if you keep any of the species that we keep. We are always wanting to learn and
the best way to do that it to combine information from fellow keepers.
Over the last few months we have loaned some animals that we have bred or
have specifically purchased to a number of colleges that run animal courses. These have been placed on long
term loan to aid students learning. Here they have the best enclosures and receive the best of care with the added bonus that
they can be studied. Our aim is to provide some more animals to colleges so that they can be studied by the students. The
students would not be able to see or study these animals normally and there has been great excitement from students and
tutors regarding the animals. Apparently the tutors don't have to ask the students to help with animals, theres always
a queue to assist . We believe that in years to come many many more animals are going to come under threat of extinction due
to global warming, deforestation etc. We believe the private keeper / breeder can have a vital and pivatol role in safe guarding
some these animals. We do not believe that Zoo's can cope with all species and so that is where the private breeder could
maybe be able to help. I do believe though that we have to drastically improve the husbandry standards, education and
mind set of the private keeper ( ourselves included ) to be a creditable and successful agent. We believe one of the
best ways is through education and that is one of the reasons we have loaned some of our animals to educational facilities.
I would like to ask visitors to my site
to take a look at EKF. This can be accessed from the link below.
This a forum for small Exotic Mammals keepers.
It is one of the friendliest if not the friendliest forum on the internet. If you are interested in Exotic Mammals then
this is the place for you. EKF was the first place in the Uk for dedicated areas for information on Gambian
Pouched Rats and Skunks. I believe EKF is the premier forum in the Uk for information on these animals and small
mammals which many try to replicate but no one comes close to. If you want the original and the best please
click on the link below.
